Students’ Council

Coláiste Mhuire Co Ed is very proud of its tradition of establishing with its students a Student Council within the school. The main aim of the Student Council is to act as a representative body for the students of the college and to help with the maintenance of a genuine school spirit.

A Student council gives students a voice within the school organisation and also provides them with the opportunity to work alongside school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and for its students. The students, principal and teachers of Coláiste Mhuire Co Ed all express that enormous benefits have been realised through this process of a democratic and effectively run Student Council.

Some of the benefits to the school community at Coláiste Mhuire Co Ed attributed to the Students Council are the creation of a positive atmosphere within the school, a supportive and inclusive environment where student involvement is key, the provision for students of the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills and above all as a valuable resource that can be drawn upon within the school.

A number of student led projects have also been undertaken by the Student Council within the school. In recent months the student council has been working with staff on an improved school uniform. These types of projects are something that the current Student Council are planning to continue due to the great impact they have within the school.
