J.C.S.P.

Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed is one of a large network of schools that offers its students J.C.S.P. The Programme provides the school with a framework to ensure that students enjoy positive experiences of the Junior Cycle through a creative, achievable, broad-based curriculum and go on to achieve success in the Junior Certificate examination. It is an addition to the Junior Certificate, not a replacement, aimed at improving student attendance and retention.

The programme develops consistent approaches to:

  • Self-esteem building
  • Student involvement and feedback
  • Student affirmation
  • Discipline
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Personal and social development

On entering the school, students are profiled as they complete both subject specific and cross-curricular statements. In First Year students partake in the Make a book project. All students benefit from the wide variety of Literacy and Numeracy initatives that are supported by JCSP. Thanks to JCSP we have

  • a superbly stocked school library
  • a JCSP “comfy” reading corner
  • an intergenerational reading initative
  • ipads with literacy and numeracy apps

In addition to the Junior Certificate, students who complete the programme receive a Student Profile which includes:

  • Certificate of participation
  • Student Profile
  • Description of programme
  • School reference

The three pillars of JCSP are

Celebration
Initiatives
Statements of Learning

J.C.S.P offers its students an opportunity to become involved in various cross-curricular initiatives (examples for this year include):

  • Make a book
  • Artist in the classroom
  • Celebrity Chef
  • Bodhran Initative
  • Drop everything and read
  • Dictionary intiative
  • Subject Field Trips to name but a few
  • Rap workshop

As a wellbeing and music initiative in 2017 we facilitated a rap workshop through the JCSP programme. We hope your enjoy the rap entitled “Be hopeful” below……

Due to the success of this initative we repeated it in 2019. During wellbeing week we took the opportunity to do a cross curricular project with literacy and music and this resulted in 3 pieces of rap music. These were written and preformed by our first years.
